No development without active support of Banks, CM

It is very heartening that credit deposit ratio (CDR) has increased, but still there is scope left for further progress. said Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat while addressing the 61^st state level bankers committee meeting in Dehradun. He asked the bank officials to ensure that the banks contribute to the vigorous development process being undertaken  by the state government by introspecting into how to reach out to the last man living in the remote villages.

“We are all aware of the instrumental roles played by the banks in the execution of the schemes meant to bring about a turnaround in socio-economic life of the state. They must be generous in  allocating funds for the speedy execution of the development   project,” he said.

He further said that good governance is an comprehensive term and the  wellbeing of the banks’ customers is an index of the development being brought through good governance. “Banks must show their commitment to development through their works on the ground. There is a need to increase the percentage of the beneficiaries involving the  Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme. For this, there is a need to create awareness among the farmers. There is  again a need to double the farmers’ income. We must together use the Krishak Mahotsav to the fullest extent so that  the  farmers get the information about the schemes being run by the government and other institutions like the banks,” CM said.

Referring to the Centre promoting the culture of digital cash payment, he said that this has increased the  banks’ accountability immensely. “The initiative cannot bear fruits unless  the banking and other financial institutions come forward in a big way.  Currently, we have achieved 60-70 percent digitisation. But the figure must be taken further.  To achieve this objective, we will have to respect the deadlines as well.

Rawat also stressed on the banks’ role in the matter of  water conservation. “As local water resources are drying up in the hills the banks should take initiatives  to rejuvenate  them. State government being engaged in  reviving Rispana and Bindal rivers, the banks should come forward to help us in this ambitious project,” CM said.
