Gov greeted ppl on Republic day

Uttarakhand Governor Dr.K.K.Paul has greeted all the people of the state on the occasion of the 68th Republic Day, wishing prosperity for the state.

In his message Dr Paul expressed his homage towards the heroes of the freedom movement, the fathers of the Indian Constitution and all the dedicated soldiers who serve the country.

Expressing satisfaction at the progress made by Uttarakhand, created as the country’s 27th state, the Governor said that there were many challenges in the path of development   which would have to be overcome to fulfill the objectives and aspirations for which the state was created.

He said that opportunities for employment/ self employment needed to be made available in remote and backward areas so that migration from there could be checked. Education, health facilities, road connectivity and communication should reach there.

Stressing the need for enhancing the quality of education in the state, the Governor said that art, sports and culture should be made part of the school curriculum for all-round development of the students.

He said educational institutions at all levels should create an environment which could result in a balance between our rich traditions and modern knowledge so that the new generation could be nurtured through our Indian culture and traditions to become responsible citizens.

The Governor said skill development was extremely important for youth so that they could contribute to nation building and face challenges with confidence and courage. Concerned about the lack of proper health services in the remote areas of the state, the Governor said that though new hope had arisen with the many medical and nursing institutions having come up, the reluctance of doctors to serve in hill areas was a cause for worry.

He said a balanced utilization of the rich natural resources of the state  would help mitigate the effects of global warming  and natural disasters. He said more awareness was needed about how to minimize the effects of disasters.

The Governor said organic farming, horticulture, cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and animal husbandry must be encouraged to improve the economic condition of the people. Cottage industries and food processing units shoud be set up in the hills to add value to locally available raw materials.

He said that education should be job-oriented and skill-based so that migration from the hills could be checked. For this, educational institutions should coordinate with industries. Efforts are underway in this direction. He said that basic infrastructure in border areas must be strengthened through special policies.

The Governor said that women were central to the socio-economic fabric of the state and had played a positive role in Chipko Movement, Uttarakhand movement and in efforts to ban alcohol in the state. He said that education and economic  progress would empower women who had a difficult life in the hill areas. Their participation in all schemes for their welfare needs to be ensured. Without empowering women, no society can progress.

Referring to the guarantee given in the constitution about the safety and dignity of each citizen, the Governor said that that before demanding our rights, we must fulfill our duties   honestly.  He said every person must participate in all programmes run by the government for a healthy, safe and comfortable future of the citizens.

He called upon youth to emerge as a    power for positive change in society and face challenges to move forward and take the state and country to new heights.

The Governor appealed to all voters of the state to strengthen democracy by exercising  their right to franchise in the assembly election on February 15 fearlessly without succumbing to any kind of pressure of factors like caste, religion or money –power. He also appealed to all candidates and workers of political parties as well as the administration to ensure smooth, peaceful and impartial polling.
