Policy makers must include villages in their policies

Padmashri Dr Anil Joshi said that  each natural resource had its own importance and policies would have to keep in mind that forests and wildlife were precious. Policy makers must include villages in their policies. Agriculture must be strengthened for a strong economy. State government had made some good initiatives, In 625 temples on the state, Prasad prepared by locals with local products was being made available  Branding is needed for local products.

Dr Anil Joshi of HESCO spoke at the first session of the fourth day of the  five day Toppers Conclave underway at Raj Bhawan. He addressed the students present and said that the effects of the economy on the environment would have to be checked through an ecology inclusive economy.

Dr US Rawat, VC of Sridev Suman University, spoke on generating self employment in Uttarakhand.  He said that though the state has abundant natural resources, these were not beig utlised properly.

He said self employment was important as every one could not get a government job. Tourism, agriculture, horticulture, medicinal plant cultivation and food processing could be the opportunities for self employment.

In the second session, Lokesh Ohri of INTACH  spoke about the Indian identity and culture which must be preserved.

 He said that science and art were not completely isolated from each other. Without science, art cannot be complete. He gave information about the rich cultural heritage of Uttarakhand including the Jageshwar temple complex ,Kalsi and  Ganga canal . Students also spoke on the occasion. Aditi Bisht of Doon University, Sudarshan Mishra of G.B.Pant university  and Nitin Arya and Abhishek from Sanskrit university expressed their views on environment conservation and preservation of culture.
