The central government has allotted Rs 218 crore to Uttarakhand towards its State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) which is used to provide immediate relief to those affected by natural calamities like earthquake, floods, fire etc.
In case of Uttarakhand, which is a special category state, the Centre contributes 90% of total SDRF grant allocation, which is usually released in two equal installments according to the recommendation of the Finance Commission. The state government will also contribute Rs 24 crore to SDRF.
The grant under SDRF is used to provide immediate relief to people affected by notified natural calamities such as cyclone, drought, earthquake, fire, flood, tsunami, hailstorm, landslide, avalanche, cloudburst, pest attack, frost and cold waves. The state can also use up to 10% of the funds available under the SDRF to provide immediate relief to the victims of natural disasters that they consider to be ‘disasters’ in the local context.
