Union government has imposed ban on condom advertisements on television. They can’t air such advertisement between 6 pm to 10 pm after declaring the commercials were “indecent” viewing for children.
While the move has been welcomed by conservative groups, some people have slammed the government for winding back decades of progress on sexual health and education.
As we know that India is lagging behind in family planning which is India’s population is growing with fast pace especially in poor section. It may be embarrassing for the parent because children keep asking question if he/she sees something different.
Ironically, In India 2.3 million people are HIV infected; 0.3 percent HIV prevalence; 80000 new HIV infections; 62000 Aids related death; 50 percent adult on anti-retroviral treatment and 33 percent child on anti-retroviral treatment.
Due to its large size India is having 3rd largest HIV infected population in the world. Although compared to neighboring countries India has made good progress in reducing new HIV infection by half since 2001.
India epidemic is concentrated among key affected population especially sex workers and men who have sex with men. Despite availability of free anti-retroviral treatment individuals are still facing difficulty in accessing clinics.
