The Gangotri Dham’s portals (door) will open for devotees on April 19 at 12:15 PM on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. This has been declared by Dharmanand Semwal, the Gangotri Temple Committee today i.e. on the occasion of Nav Samvatsar. Semwal further said that the date and time have been finalised in accordance with the Hindu Panchang.
As per tradition, the ceremonial Doli carrying the Bhog Murti of Goddess Ganga will begin its journey on April 18 from her winter abode in Mukhwa Village. The procession will be accompanied by an army band along with traditional Dhol-Damau, showcasing the region’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
The Doli will halt overnight at the ancient Bhairav Temple in Bhairav Ghati. It will resume its journey the next morning at 7:00 AM on April 19 and proceed toward Gangotri Dham.
Upon arrival, the temple gates will be ceremonially opened, marking the beginning of the six-month Char Dham pilgrimage season. A large number of devotees from across India and abroad are expected to visit, with rituals and पूजा ceremonies to be conducted as per established traditions.
In a notable development, the Temple Committee has also announced that entry of non-Sanatani individuals into the temple premises will be restricted during this year’s Char Dham Yatra, a decision that may draw attention and spark discussion among devotees and observers.
The reopening of Gangotri Dham marks the formal commencement of the annual Char Dham Yatra, one of the most significant spiritual journeys for Hindu devotees. Authorities are expected to soon issue detailed guidelines and arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage.
