Four days long Uttarayan Kauthi Mahotsav 2026 is going to happen at Parade ground, Dehradun. It will begin on February 5 and will end on February 8 i.e. Sunday. This has been told by Seva Sankalp Foundation Founder Geeta Dhami while addressing media at the Dehradun Press Club on Wednesday.
During the press conference, Dhami outlined the objectives, schedule, and key programs of the festival, stating that the event aims to celebrate and promote Uttarakhand’s rich folk culture while providing recognition to inspiring individuals who have contributed significantly to society, villages, and the state through their courage, hard work, determination, and talent.
She also informed that distinguished personalities from across the state will be honored with the prestigious “Nanda Shikhar Samman”. The awards will be presented by the Governor of Uttarakhand and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, adding to the significance of the event.
A major highlight of the festival is the participation of artisans, farmers, craftsmen, folk artists, small entrepreneurs, and self-help group members from all 13 districts of Uttarakhand. Around 100 stalls are being provided free of cost, offering participants a strong marketing platform and an opportunity to move towards self-reliance. This initiative is expected to further strengthen the spirit of “Vocal for Local” and contribute to the vision of a self-reliant Uttarakhand.
The festival will feature a colorful display of traditional Uttarakhand cuisine, local products, millets, handicrafts, and folk culture. Special attractions include cultural and creative competitions for children, along with self-defense and empowerment training programs for women and girls.
The Uttarayan Kauthik Mahotsav will commence on February 5 at 11 a.m. with a grand and divine procession from the Parade Ground. The procession will include the palanquins of Goddess Nanda Devi and Golju Maharaj Ji, accompanied by other deities and the rhythmic beats of traditional drums. Participants dressed in Jaunsari, Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, and Punjabi costumes will present a spectacular glimpse of Uttarakhand’s diverse folk traditions.
Renowned folk artists of Uttarakhand will perform during the festival. Prominent names include Narendra Singh Negi, Pawandeep Rajan, Lalit Mohan Joshi, B.K. Samant, Saurabh Maithani, Govind Digari, Khushi Joshi, Inder Arya, and Reshma Shah.
Geeta Dhami described the festival as a strong initiative to preserve, promote, and revive Uttarakhand’s glorious traditions, folk art, folk music, and cultural heritage, with the core objective of connecting future generations to their cultural roots.
At the conclusion of the press conference, an appeal was made to the people of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, media representatives, and culture enthusiasts to attend the festival in large numbers, encourage the participants, and contribute to keeping Uttarakhand’s unique folk heritage alive. Event in-charge Shri Geetaram Gaur and other dignitaries associated with the Seva Sankalp Foundation were also present on the occasion.
