A man was shot dead in broad daylight around 10.15 am near Silver City Mall, Rajpur Road on Friday. This news spread like bushfire and created panic among residents as it was second shooting within 48 hours. Both incidents happened on broad daylight between 10 am 11 am at busy area of the city.
The victim has been identified as Vikram Sharma. He was attacked by unidentified assailants. Around three shots were fired, and he died on the spot (or was declared dead shortly after at a hospital).Vikram Sharma originally from Kashipur (Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand), where he ran a stone crusher business. He also had interests in property dealing and reportedly conducted business in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. He was living with his family in a rented flat in Dehradun.
Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh said that over 50 criminal cases registered against him, primarily in Jharkhand (he was described as a “Jharkhand gangster” in some reports, originally from Jamshedpur area). He was out on bail and carried a licensed pistol. His family denied any recent threats.
Although Police suspect a gang war, rivalry, or old dispute linked to his criminal past/cases in Jharkhand. Investigations are probing this angle, with a joint team of Dehradun police, STF, and coordination with Jharkhand police. Meanwhile Police have deployed teams citywide, collected evidence (forensic teams at scene), and are reviewing CCTV, eyewitness accounts, and his records. Till the filing the report the accused were yet to be arrested by the Police.
This is the second murder in Dehradun in the last 48 hours and the third (or up to fifth in some counts) in about 11–16 days, sparking concern among residents about rising crime in the city.
