Following on the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Journalist Welfare Fund (Corpus Fund) Committee and the Chief Minister Journalist Honour Pension Scheme Committee convened a joint meeting at the Information Directorate on Dehradun. The meeting was chaired by Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari.
After reviewing the cases presented, the committee recommended ₹5 lakh each to the dependents of 15 deceased journalists from the Journalist Welfare Fund. Additionally, two journalists suffering from serious illnesses were recommended financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each for medical treatment.
Under the Chief Minister Journalist Honour Pension Scheme, the committee also approved a monthly pension of ₹8,000 for four senior journalists, recognizing their long-standing contribution to the field.
DIPR DG Tiwari said the Information Department is committed to address matters related to the welfare and dignity of journalists. He emphasized that the state government aims to extend maximum possible support to journalists and their families, adding that regular committee meetings are being held to ensure timely and sensitive resolution of cases.
The meeting was attended by Joint Director K.S. Chauhan, Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, Senior Finance Officer Shashi Singh, and committee members Laxman Singh Negi, Girish Tiwari, Amit Sharma, and Shashi Sharma.
