Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep grief over the demise of Diwakar Bhatt, a prominent face of the Uttarakhand statehood movement and former cabinet minister. As a mark of respect, the Chief Minister announced a holiday for all government offices in Haridwar district.
On behalf of the Chief Minister, District Magistrate Mayur Dixit and Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Singh Doval offered floral tributes and paid homage to the late leader. Bhatt, remembered as a dedicated public representative and a relentless advocate for the state’s rights, was accorded full state honours.
A guard of honour was presented before his cremation, which took place at 2:00 pm at the Kharkhari cremation ground. His son, Lalit Bhatt, lit the funeral pyre as per rituals.
Public representatives from multiple districts, officials, organisation members, and a large number of local residents joined the funeral procession to pay their final respects and participate in the last journey of the veteran leader.
Diwakar Bhatt’s passing marks the end of an era for the Uttarakhand movement, with condolences pouring in from across the state’s political and social spheres.
