Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday participated in a Kisan Chaupal organized at Pawwala Sauda village under Doiwala block of Dehradun. Sitting on a traditional charpai amidst fields, he had direct interaction with local farmers, discussing their issues and gathering feedback directly from the grassroots level. On the occasion, he also planted a sapling under the campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, promoting environmental awareness.

Uttarakhand Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi and senior officials from the Agriculture Department were also present at the Chaupal. Farmers voiced their concerns regarding seeds, irrigation, crop marketing, insurance schemes, and the fair pricing of agricultural produce. Producers of litchi, basmati rice, jackfruit, and vegetables shared their challenges and suggested solutions.

Minister Chouhan emphasized that the Government of India, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, is fully committed to double farmers’ income and achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). “I myself come from a farmer’s family and understand their struggles. That is why I came directly to the field—to ensure the benefits of government schemes are reaching the last mile,” he said.

The Union Minister directed officials to act promptly on the farmers’ concerns and announced that the Central and State governments will work together to develop Uttarakhand as a national hub for horticulture. He praised the high quality of the state’s agricultural produce and expressed confidence that Uttarakhand’s fruits and vegetables can make a mark globally.

He added that farming will be made more profitable through natural farming, technological innovation, and water conservation, ensuring long-term sustainability and increased income for farmers in the hill state.
