Despite intermittent snowfall and icy winds over the past four days, the spirit of devotees at Shri Hemkund Sahib remains undeterred. Nestled at an altitude of over 15,000 feet in the Himalayas, the revered Sikh pilgrimage site is witnessing a historic turnout this year. Over 30,000 pilgrims have paid their obeisance in just the past eight days — setting a new record and showcasing unwavering faith and spiritual strength.

Braving the cold, many devotees are continuing the tradition of taking a dip in the freezing waters of the holy Sarovar. The Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra, known for its physical and spiritual challenges, draws people from around the globe, and this year’s turnout reflects a growing global reverence for the site.

Shri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust’s Chairman Narendrajeet Singh Bindra, recently met Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan to review the yatra’s progress. During the meeting, Shri Bindra reiterated the demand for a permanent bridge at Govindghat, a key yatra point — a project already announced by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to enhance safety during the monsoon and snowfall.

He also expressed gratitude to CM Dhami for sanctioning the construction of two new halls at Ghangaria to improve rest facilities for pilgrims.  Bindra commended the SDRF, ATS, and ITBP personnel deployed across the route for ensuring the safety and comfort of visitors.

Appealing to pilgrims to support environmental conservation and adopt plastic-free travel, he highlighted the collective responsibility of devotees and the administration. The Hemkund Sahib Yatra, also near the scenic Valley of Flowers and Lakshman Temple, continues to be a beacon of faith, unity, and natural harmony.
