The sacred Hemkund Sahib Yatra is set to commence from May 25 in Chamoli district. Its preparation is in final stage. The district administration, in coordination with the Shri Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara Trust, is working 24*7 to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage for thousands of devotees expected to arrive from across the country.
Indian Army personnel are playing a vital role in clearing snow from the Yatra route, particularly on the high-altitude stretches leading to the revered Sikh shrine. Their efforts are focused on making the trek route safe and accessible for pilgrims.
One of the key infrastructure developments, the valley bridge at Govindghat, has been completed. This bridge is a crucial point on the Yatra route, connecting the motorable road to the trekking path leading towards Ghangaria and Hemkund Sahib.
District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari has instructed all departments to ensure that facilities such as electricity, water supply, toilets, and medical aid are in place along the entire route. Health centers and emergency medical teams are being stationed at key points to assist pilgrims in case of any medical needs.
The Gurudwara Management Committee is also finalizing arrangements in Govindghat, Ghangaria, and Hemkund Sahib. These include langar (community kitchens), resting areas, and accommodations for pilgrims. Volunteers and sevadars are being deployed to assist devotees throughout the Yatra.
Officials have urged pilgrims to come prepared for cold weather and high-altitude conditions. The district administration has also issued guidelines for safe travel and urged devotees to follow instructions strictly.
With these preparations nearly complete, Chamoli is ready to welcome devotees for the spiritual journey to Hemkund Sahib – a pilgrimage known not only for its religious significance but also for its scenic beauty and challenging terrain.
