Vigilance team has apprehended a peon posted in the Upper Tehsil Office, Roorkee, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000. The trap was laid based on a complaint received through the state’s anti-corruption helpline 1064.
The complainant had informed that a case related to his sister’s agricultural land was pending before the Tehsildar, Roorkee, and that he had submitted a restoration application on April 21 for re-hearing. It was alleged that Rohit, a resident of House No. 273, Village Town Roorkee, and employed as a peon under the Additional Tehsildar, had demanded a bribe to ensure the disposal of the application.
Acting swiftly, the Vigilance team conducted a trap operation and apprehended the accused while he was accepting the bribe. The operation is part of the ongoing crackdown on corruption initiated under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who has repeatedly emphasized zero tolerance towards corruption.
In the last one month alone, more than five government employees have been caught red-handed taking bribes. Over the last three years, more than 150 corrupt individuals have been arrested and prosecuted under vigilance laws.
The Dhami government has made it clear that corruption at any level will not be tolerated. Every investigation, arrest, and suspension is being treated as a surgical strike on corruption. The government’s tough stance has boosted public confidence and sent a strong message across all departments that no one will be spared if found guilty.
This latest action in Roorkee is a reaffirmation of the government’s strong and uncompromising approach to building a transparent and accountable administration.
