A Patwari known as Gulshan Haider, posted in Kalsi Tehsil of Dehradun district, was caught red-handed by the Vigilance Trap Team while accepting a bribe of ₹2,000.The menace of bribery in government offices continues unabated in Uttarakhand.
According to officials, the complainant had lodged a report on the Vigilance Establishment’s toll-free helpline 1064, stating that his cousins had applied online for Domicile and Caste Certificates, but the status on the portal showed that the applications were cancelled.
When the complainant contacted Patwari Gulshan Haider over the phone to inquire about the matter, the Patwari allegedly demanded ₹2,000 and asked him to bring the amount along with an identity card to Tehsil Kalsi on May 26.
Rather than bowing to the demand for a bribe, the complainant decided to take legal action and approached the Vigilance Department. The department swiftly set up a trap plan. On Sunday, the Vigilance team successfully caught Patwari Gulshan Haider red-handed while taking the bribe in a private room of the Tehsil office.
Following the arrest, a case has been registered against the Patwari under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and he is currently being interrogated. Further investigation is underway to determine if more officials are involved or if there is a pattern of such corrupt practices in the tehsil office.
This is yet another incident highlighting the Dhami government’s continued campaign against corruption in public offices. With multiple officials being arrested in recent weeks, the state vigilance teams are maintaining strict action against those found guilty of bribery and misuse of official positions.
