In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted a surprise raid in Dehradun on Wednesday and seized 500 kilograms of adulterated cheese. The operation was part of the department’s ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and protect public health in Uttarakhand’s capital.
According to officials, the seized cheese was found to be in clear violation of food safety standards. Preliminary tests indicated the presence of non-edible and harmful substances that could pose serious health risks if consumed. Authorities stated that such adulterated dairy products can lead to food poisoning, gastrointestinal infections, and other long-term health complications.
The FDA team carried out the raid based on specific inputs and complaints received from local sources. The contaminated cheese was confiscated from a local dairy unit, and further investigations are underway to identify the supply chain and origin of the adulterated material. Legal action will be taken against those found responsible.
Following the raid, the department has issued an appeal to the general public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity related to food items. Whether it is a shop, dhaba, hotel, or dairy, citizens are encouraged to inform the FDA helpline or contact the nearest food safety officer if they suspect foul play. The FDA has assured that the identity of all complainants will be kept confidential and strict action will be taken swiftly upon receiving complaints.
This latest action by the FDA serves as a reminder of the growing concerns around food adulteration and the importance of public cooperation in ensuring food safety. Authorities have also planned increased surveillance and random inspections across the city in the coming days.
