In a world grappling with rising crimes against women and the confusion surrounding human relationships, it is important to differentiate clearly between sex, love, and lust. Though all three may seem interrelated, their meaning, intent, and impact on human behavior are vastly different.

Lust, in its extreme form, is a mental disorder of sexual desire. It blinds the individual to social norms and moral boundaries. A person gripped by uncontrollable lust cannot distinguish between male or female, child or adult. This mental deformity drives such individuals to commit heinous crimes like molestation and rape. People consumed by lust behave like animals, devoid of sensitivity, humanity, and ethics. They act not out of affection or emotional connection, but out of a selfish urge for physical gratification.

In contrast, sex or intercourse, when done with mutual consent and within the bounds of respect and love, is a natural and essential part of human life. It is not just about pleasure, but also about emotional bonding, trust, and biological continuity. Without intercourse, the process of reproduction would halt, making the continuation of human life impossible. In this sense, sex is a sacred act of creation, not something to be ashamed of.

When sex is part of love, it holds a deeper meaning. Love begins with attraction, often sparked by personality, good conduct, and mutual respect. As emotional intimacy grows, physical intimacy often becomes a natural extension. In a healthy relationship, sex strengthens emotional bonds, brings people closer, and deepens commitment. According to psychological research, physical intimacy enhances care, loyalty, and attention toward a partner.

The art and harmony between love and sex are beautifully illustrated in the sculptures of Khajuraho temples, where physical union is not depicted as vulgar, but as a divine expression of affection and unity.

However, lust has no place in love. Lust is one-sided, selfish, and predatory. Love, on the other hand, is mutual, respectful, and humane. Society must understand this difference — because where sex in love nurtures life, lust destroys it.

Understanding and educating people about this difference is key to building a safer, more respectful society.
