Responding to public demand, the Dhami Cabinet has approved a stringent land law (Sakht Bhu Kanoon) aimed at safeguarding Uttarakhand’s resources, cultural heritage, and citizens’ rights. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced this decision following the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
“This historic step will play a crucial role in preserving Uttarakhand’s original identity,” Dhami stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting the interests of the people and maintaining their trust.
The newly enacted law will regulate land transactions, restricting indiscriminate purchases by outsiders that could impact the local culture and demographic balance. By imposing stricter provisions, the state seeks to prevent uncontrolled land sales while promoting sustainable development.
A key highlight of the law is the protection of agricultural and horticultural land in Uttarakhand’s hill districts. Under its provisions, non-residents will be barred from purchasing land for farming or gardening in 11 hill districts, with the exception of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar.
The law also enforces strict penalties for unauthorized land use within municipal limits, ensuring compliance with designated zoning regulations.
With these measures, the Dhami government aims to safeguard Uttarakhand’s land resources, curb indiscriminate transactions, and uphold the interests of local communities.
