A unique moment witnessed on the second day of the Uttarakhand budget session when a dialogue took place in Sanskrit, the second official language of the state. This special initiative, directed by Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, showcased the government’s commitment to promote Sanskrit.
Before the session resumed after lunch, the assembly hall resonated with Sanskrit conversations, marking a new beginning for the language’s use in legislative proceedings. The Sanskrit Education Department, in collaboration with the Sanskrit Academy, had earlier trained the state’s ministers and MLAs in simple Sanskrit conversation to prepare them for this moment.
Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan emphasized the significance of Sanskrit, stating, “Sanskrit paves the way for India to become a world leader. The Bharatiya Janata Party government has given it the status of the second official language, and we must respect it and make it a part of our daily lives.”
Education and Sanskrit Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat highlighted the state government’s initiative to promote Sanskrit by designating 13 villages as Sanskrit villages, where trainers are being appointed to teach simple Sanskrit to villagers. He congratulated the Sanskrit Education Department for their efforts.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Sanskrit Unnayan Samiti Chairman and MLA Bharat Chaudhary, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, Saurabh Bahuguna, MLA Brijbhushan Gairola, Savita Kapoor, Umesh Kumar, Renu Bisht, and key officials such as Secretary Deepak Gairola, Director Anand Bhardwaj, and Deputy Director Dr. Chandi Prasad Ghildiyal.
This initiative marks a significant step toward the revival of Sanskrit, strengthening its presence in governance and daily discourse in Uttarakhand.
