In a powerful act of courage and defiance against traditional norms, Two daughters namely Priyanka and Ekta from Tok Khuleti village in Bungachina, Didihat assembly constituency, have set an inspiring example for others. Following the sudden death of their father, Ravindra Lal (54), on the night of February 15 due to a cardiac arrest, the sisters stepped in to perform the last rites—a task typically reserved for sons in their community.

With their brother, Sachin Kumar, serving in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Arunachal Pradesh, the two daughters took the responsibility of carrying their father’s bier and completing all necessary funeral rituals. Their actions have shattered age-old societal perceptions, showing that daughters are equally capable of fulfilling such important family duties.

The family, now mourning the loss of their beloved father, was unable to wait for Sachin due to the urgent circumstances. Priyanka and Ekta’s brave decision to perform their father’s last rites has been widely admired in the village and beyond, marking a significant shift in the societal outlook towards gender roles.
