Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has honored 261 Sanskrit students in the Sanskrit Student Pratibha Samman and Scholarship Distribution Program here in Dehradun on Sunday. The programme was organized by the Sanskrit Education Department at the Mukhya Sewak Sadan in Dehradun. The event reiterates the Uttarakhand government’s commitment to preserve and promote Sanskrit education.

A total of 24 meritorious students from Class 10 and 12 were awarded under the Sanskrit Chhatra Pratibha Samman Yojana (2024-25). The top three students received ₹5,100, ₹4,100, and ₹3,100 respectively. Additionally, 148 students benefitted from the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Scheduled Caste-Tribe Sanskrit Scholarship Scheme (2024-25), while 89 girl students received scholarships under the Gargi Sanskrit Girl Scholarship Scheme (2024-25)—a pioneering initiative encouraging girls to pursue Sanskrit studies.

CM Dhami highlighted that, for the first time, the Gargi Sanskrit Girl Scholarship Scheme is providing an annual scholarship of ₹3,012 to all girls enrolled in Sanskrit schools. Similarly, under the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Scholarship Scheme, eligible students from Scheduled Castes and Tribes are receiving ₹3,012 per year.

Emphasizing the state’s dedication to Sanskrit, CM Dhami announced plans to develop 13 Sanskrit villages in 13 districts. The Uttarakhand Sanskrit Academy, Haridwar, is actively promoting Dev Bhasha Sanskrit through All India Research Conferences, Vedic and Astrology Conferences, Kavi Sammelans, and skill development workshops.

The Chief Minister also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in reviving India’s ancient cultural heritage. He noted that Uttarakhand’s innovative policies in Sanskrit education are setting an example at the national level, strengthening the state’s identity as Devbhoomi.

The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi, MLA Sarita Kapoor, Secretary Sanskrit Education Deepak Kumar Gairola, and Director Sanskrit Education Anand Bhardwaj, among others.
