Devotees Flock to Winter pilgrimage Despite Harsh Weather

Devotees are flocking to the winter pilgrimage of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. More than 15000 pilgrims have paid obeisance at the revered shrines. Baba Kedarnath’s winter abode in Ukhimath witnessed the highest turnout, with 6,483 devotees, followed by 5,104 at Pandukeshwar, the winter seat of Bhagwan Badri Vishal. Meanwhile, 3,114 pilgrims performed puja at Mukhba, the winter abode of Gangotri Dham, and 614 offered prayers to Ma Yamuna at Kharsali.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially inaugurated the Winter Char Dham Yatra on December 8 at the Panch Kedar winter seat in Ukhimath, urging devotees to embrace the spiritual journey. Despite snowfall and plummeting temperatures, the enthusiasm among pilgrims remains high, with hundreds visiting the shrines daily.

The administration has rolled out comprehensive arrangements to ensure safety and comfort. From issuing special advisories to providing medical screenings and warm shelter options, authorities are prioritizing the well-being of pilgrims. Devotees have also been advised to register for the pilgrimage, carry essentials such as warm clothes and medicines, and follow a nutritious diet during the journey.

A special initiative by the state government offers a 25% discount on stays at GMVN rest houses for pilgrims. Disaster Management Department updates on weather and routes are being regularly communicated to address disruptions caused by snowfall or landslides.

The Winter Char Dham Yatra is gaining momentum as a serene yet adventurous pilgrimage, offering devotees a chance to connect with their faith amidst the tranquility of the Himalayan winter.
