One of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s ambitious projects is to make Uttarakhand an energy efficient state. For the past two years, he has been working to make it a reality. Whether it is through construction of hydel power projects or through setting up solar power plants. Recently, he came up with an interesting scheme called Mukhyamantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana- MSSY (Chief Minister Solar Self-Employment Scheme); which is proving to be quite successful.
Under this scheme, one can setup solar power plants having capacity of 20 to 200 KW in both- hilly & plain areas. This scheme is attracting a lot of youth of the state, who are interested in self-employment. Under this scheme, in the past 11 months, a total of 839 applications have been received by UPCL (Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited). Of these, 297 applications have been given LOI (Letter of Intent).
It should be known that CM Pushkar Singh Dhami had launched this scheme on 13 March last year. Certain amendments had been made in the scheme on CM Dhami’s instructions, to accommodate different capacities of solar power plants (20, 25, 50, 100 & 200 KW). This would allow youth to set up different capacity solar power plants in both- hilly areas & in plains.
This scheme is proving to be helpful in providing self-employment to the youth of Uttarakhand. It is proving to be beneficial to those youth who are interested in setting up their own business. In the previous MSSY scheme, installed capacity of 3.43 MW was setup with an investment of ₹13.6 crore. The current MSSY scheme brought by CM Dhami has seen LOA (Letter of Approval) of 44.94 MW which will bring investments of ₹224 crore in the state.
Once complete, Mukhyamantri Saur Swarojgar Yojana- MSSY will provide a lot of employment opportunities for the people of Uttarakhand. It will also help in fulfilling CM Dhami’s commitment of making Uttarakhand an energy efficient state at national level, through production of green energy.
