In Uttarakhand, private companies could soon enter the electricity sector. Under tariff based competitive bidding (TBCB) PTCUL is preparing to hand over soon 132 KV power stations and two transmission lines in private hands. Proposals are being prepared for this. According to PTCUL, the target of construction of this power plant and transmission line has been kept year 2023.
Crores of rupees are spent on the construction of power houses and laying of transmission lines. PTCUL is neither receiving funds from the central government nor the state government for the construction of new power stations and transmission lines. PTCUL itself is not able to bear the cost of producing electricity houses and transmission lines on its own.
Therefore, PTCUL is now preparing to hand over the newly built power houses and transmission lines to the private or other power companies. At present, PTCUL has proposed the construction of Khurdia power plant of Udhamsingh Nagar and about 194 km of transmission line related to it, along with 220 KV Double Circuit Almora-Jauljibi Line (260 km) to private companies. Under this, there will be complete control over these power houses and lines. PTCUL has set a target for the year 2023.
