Organic farming can bring farmers prosperity

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has given greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Kisan Diwas. On this occasion, he also paid homage to the farmer leader and former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh.

In his message, Chief Minister said that the state government is committed for the welfare of the farmers. Effective initiatives are being taken by the state government regarding the outstanding payment of sugarcane farmers. In this regard, an amount of Rs. 98 crores has been released for the payment of outstanding amount of government sugar mills. The state government is working with the resolve to double the income of farmers by 2022. Effective initiatives have been taken by the state government to strengthen the economy of the farmers. According to their needs, farmers are being provided loan upto Rs 1 lakh at mere interest rate of 2 per cent. More than three lakh farmers have benefited from this scheme so far.

Chief Minister said that organic farming is being promoted in the state to improve the condition of the farmers. At present, organic farming is being done on 60,000 hectare area in the state. DBT subsidy on fertilisers to farmers has been started. He said that the income of many farmers has doubled through farming of aromatic plants. Horticulture, vegetable cultivation is being promoted in the villages. The strategy of ‘Beej Se Bazar Tak’ been framed in the wider interest of the farmers.

Chief Minister said that with the support of National Cooperative Development Corporation, the Integrated Cooperative Development Project worth Rs. 3632 crores has been started. This project will benefit 50,000 farmers of the state. In the first phase, 3900 clusters have been selected for the development of organic farming in 78,000 hectares of land. This will benefit about 1.95 lakh farmers. The number of farm machinery banks has been increased from 70 to 370 for agricultural mechanization. Arrangements have been made to provide a group of at least 8 farmers in the farm machinery bank with a subsidy of up to 80 per cent on Agricultural machinery upto Rs 10 lakh. Dairy Federations are being provided with an incentive amount of Rs. 04 per liter, which will benefit about 50 thousand milk vendors.

Chief Minister said that our state is primarily the land of the villages and the majority of the people living in villages are of the farmers. And agriculture is the main source of their income. Our resolve is for the betterment of the farmers by changing the scenario of agriculture in the state.
