The 125 kilometers long Rishikesh-Karanprayag railway line with 12 stations, 17 tunnels and 35 bridges to be built at a cost of Rs. 16216 crores will start by 2024. The Virbhadra-Rishikesh rail line by 2019-20, New Rishikesh-Devprayag railway line by 2023-24 and Devprayag- Karanprayag railway line by 2024-25 will start. Under the project, the railways will also build a hospital, a bridge and a stadium at Srikot.
Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat reviewed the progress of Rishikesh-Karanprayag railway line project at secretariat on Monday. Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat instructed the District Magistrates of Pauri, Chamoli, Tehri and Rudraprayag to coordinate with railways and Commissioner Garhwal to sort the issues of compensation of land and houses and other related issues at the earliest. Expressing happiness at the progress of the Rishikesh-Karanprayag railways project, he said that concerned District Magistrates sharing their experiences with each other should get over the hurdles at the earliest. He said that Rishikesh-Karanprayag railway line is a project of national importance.
During the meeting, Rail Developmnent Corporation Limited informed that work on Virbhadra-Rishikesh rail line, under bridge, road over bridge, bridge construction over upper Chanderbhaga, Guler, Kodiyala, Dhari Devi, approach road up to Shivpuri and entry road has been going on speedily.
The state government has given sanction for Geo-technical investigation and work of Geo-technical investigation has been going on 126 kilometer long project area. A proposal to have a new railway station at Rishikesh has been put up. It is to be mentioned that the monitoring of the Rishikesh-Karanprayag railway project which has been declared as a project of national importance by government of India is being done through ‘Pragati’ portal. Already, the required forest land and Uttarakhand government land for the railway project has been transferred. The acquisition of 167 hectares of land in four districts is in the last phase. A sum of Rs 900 crore in 2018, a sum of Rs. 1050 crore in 2019-20 and a sum of Rs. 2200 crore in 2020 will be spent on the project.
Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat instructed that officials involved in land acquisition and those of power department in supplying adequate power for the project should work speedily. All the railway stations should be constructed keeping in mind the hill architecture and tourist spots of Uttarakhand. The work of paying compensation for land should be expedited, he said.
RVNL which has done location survey of linking Char Dhams with railways informed that recommendation has been done for a 327.11 kilometer railway line to link Yamunotri, Gangotri, Sri Kedarnath and Sri Badrinath with an estimatyed cost of Rs 43292 crore.
A sum of rs.120.92 crore budget sanction has been given in the current railway budget for final location survey for new railway connectivity with ‘Char Dham’.
Additional Chief Secretary Om Prakash, Principal Secretary Anand Vardhan, Arvind Singh Hayanki, Commissioner Garhwal Shailesh Bagoli, District Magistrate Rudraprayag Mangesh Ghildyal, through video conferencing District Magistrates of Pauri, Chamoli and Tehri, Chief Project Manager of Rishikesh-Karanprayag railway project Himanshu Badoni and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
