Team India beat the West Indies by an innings and 272 runs in the two-match Test series to take an unassailable 1-0 lead. The Indian team won the Rajkot Test in two and a half days and wrapped up both innings of the West Indies within 98.5 overs. In this match, debutant Prithvi Shaw was awarded the Man of the Match award for his hundred in the first innings.
This is the biggest victory of India in Test cricket so far. Earlier this year, India had defeated Afghanistan by innings and 262 runs in their historic debut test match in Juner and won by an innings and 239 runs against Sri Lanka in 2017.
Batting first, winning the toss, Team India declared their innings in the first innings with 649 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. After that Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed 4 as West Indies were bowled for 181 runs in the first innings.
On the basis of the first innings, India gained 468 runs on the West Indies. India gave the West Indies a chance to follow-on. After that, in the second innings, the West Indies could score only 196 runs with Kuldeep Yadav picking up his maiden five-for.
In the second innings, Kuldeep Yadav, for the Indians, achieved his career best performance of 57 runs with five wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin, who took four wickets in the first innings, took 2 wickets in the second innings. Ravindra Jadeja has three scalps against his name in the second innings.
Opener Kieron Powell scored 83 runs in the second innings for West Indies, for which he faced 93 balls and hit eight fours and four sixes. In the first innings for the West Indies, Ronsten Chase scored 53 and Keemo Paul scored 47.
