The ICFAI Law School organised two day National Level “ICFAI Model United Nation”. Its obejective was to teach the participants international diplomacy and public speaking.
More than 20 colleges participated. They participated in discussions on a given agenda with strict connivance to regulations that govern a UN committee. These soft skills learnt in IMUN’18 will be beneficial to all the delegates from all and any stream. On the first day of the program, the event began with lighting of lamp followed by ganesh vandana. Participants from more than 20 diverse colleges including GLC Mumbai, Amity UP, MRIU, BBDIT Lucknow, DSNLU, UPES, IMS Unison, Law College Dehradun and other National Law Universities in India. There were four committees, UNGA (United Nations General Assembly), Stake holder’s meet, International Atomic Energy Agency and AIPPM (All India Political Parties Meet) with total delegate strength of 250 from across the country.
The Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony was Minister of state for Higher Education Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat.The Guests of Honour were MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir, UNDP State Technical officer Dr. Leelavathy Paliesetty, Vice Chancellor, IUD Prof Dr. Pawan K. Aggarwal, Pro VC of IUD Prof Dr. Muddu Vinay. The faculty conveners were Avishek Raj along with Academic Coordinator of Faculty of Law, Monica Kharola, who are playing a major role in coordinating and organizing the event. The Student Conveners for the event are, Basuki Nath Pandey (Secretary General), Aditya Anand (Director General), Himani Agarwal (Deputy Secretary General) .The closing ceremony will be graced by chief Guest Padmshree Avdhash Kaushal (RLEK, Dehardun)who will enlightened the audience briefly on world peace and diplomacy.
The UNGA: Social, Cultural & Humanitarian committee oversaw the agenda “The Question of Extra-Judicial, Summary & Arbitrary Executions”.
STAKEHOLDER’S MEET, a National committee discussed over the agenda- “Outside Court Settlement of Ayodhya Dispute”.
The third committee of IMUN’18 was INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY with the agenda “Application of the IAEA Safeguards in the Middle East”. This was quite a challenging topic to hark upon but was very well discussed by most of the delegates with occasional moderation by the executive board members.
IMUN’18 also had another Indian committee, AIPPM, where the agenda was to discuss, analyze and suggest on “Electoral & Educational Reforms”. The Executive Board members were highly effective in directing the discussions in the forums and also guiding delegates in their approach towards the agenda.
