Uttarakhand Transport Federation has announced a two-day strike for the 15-point demand including exempting the speed governor in old commercial vehicles. In the agitative notice sent to the Chief Minister, the federation has given a deferment of the strike till August 16, and if it does not happen, on 17-18 August, it has warned of stopping private transport services in the entire state. In the notice sent to the Chief Minister through BJP leader Sunil Uniyal Gamma, Sanjay Shastri from the federation said that the government was not showing any seriousness on the problems of transporter. Transporter is struggling with economic losses and the government is further twisting its arm by applying new rules. In the absence of less resources on mountainous routes, driver tend totake more passengers to meet their economic targets.
He further added, that if the government can not overcome the difficulties, then it should not increase it. The federation said that if the government did not consider the demands, then on 17 and 18 August, there will be a strike of trucks including private buses, taxis, maxi, jeep commanders, Vikram and auto throughout the state. Even after this, if the government does nothing then an indefinite strike will be done.
