With the setting up of the library, students will come to know more about great men and thinkers like Swami Vivekananda.
Addressing the gathering , Dr Paul spoke about the life and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda and his attachment to the Himalayas. Almora and other places associated with Swami Vivekananda should be developed as a tourist circuit. This would bring his followers to Uttarakhand and would boost tourism in the state .
Whatever Swami Vivekananda had written about the Himalayan region in his works was a matter of pride for Uttarakhand. Even in his famous lecture delivered at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago, the Swami had referred to the various places where he received enlightenment in Kumaon. Swami Vivekananda was a great youth icon and his birth anniversary was celebrated thus as the national youth day.
Swami had encouraged the learning of English and Sanskrit alongwith one’s mother tongue . “He believed that while Sanskrit would link us to our ancient scriptures, English would help us know about the technological development happening in other countries.”
Present on the occasion were state minister Rekha Arya and Coordinator of Vivekananda Sewa Samiti Shanti Kumar Ghosh and other eminent persons.
