As part of Golden Jubilee celebration Wadia Institute of Himalyan Geology had organised Science exhibition, which was inaugurated by its Director Dr Meera Tiwari. In which WIHG’s each group has showcased their scientific activities through posters, samples, instruments.
In the Geophysics counter there were information not only about earthquakes, subsurface imaging, earthquake precursor studies, and geodetic investigations but there was demonstration of instruments like GPS, seismograph, Magnetotelluric.
Petrology and Geochemistry detailed information regarding geodynamic evolution of the Himalayan orogeny and weathering patterns using petrological and geochemical tools.
Sedimentology group has shown information regarding sediment dynamics and landscape evolution from 4 Ga to present. Three dimensional study of rocks with respect to their deformational features has been shown in Structure and Tectonic counter.
Biostratigraphy division has shown study of fossils from the Himalayan sequences for imparting temporal information to different evolutionary events of the orogen. Geomorphology and Environment geology group show cased information pertaining to landslides, glacier landforms, glacier hazards etc.
Major equipments/facilities available in the institute were demonstrated in the counter of central facility. Whereas study of landforms on the earth surface, natural hazards, neotectonics and environmental changes were displayed in Geomorphology and Environment Geology.
Geomorphology and Environment geology group showcased information pertaining to landslides, glacier landforms, glacier hazards etc. Glacier related studies and monitoring of multiple aspects of glaciers were displayed and shown in the counter of Centre for Glaciology.
Earthquake awareness counter provided information about preparedness and mitigation startegies during earthquake.
The science exhibitions was a grand success and seen by more than 1000 students Doon valley schools and colleges.
