The connectivity to Nepal and China border will be strengthened. Construction work of roads pending for years has been speeded up. Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh has directed the working institutions to fix the time frame. The Chief Secretary was reviewing the progress of construction of border roads, in the Secretariat on Tuesday.
It was informed in the meeting that sub-mining has been allowed for the construction of the New Sobla-Tedanag road on the border of China. Sonam-PDA has been approved. Village Niti to Niti pass and Simli-Gwaldam route will soon get approval. It was told that 12 km Tanakpur-Joljivi route on Nepal border has been constructed. Construction work of 17.875 km is underway. Draft DPR of Rs 202 crores has been sent to the Union Home Ministry for construction of 46.850 km one lane road. Apart from this, DPR is being prepared for the construction of a two-lane bridge of 110 meter at Chharchum near Dharchula in Pithoragarh. Tender for DPR consultancy has been issued for construction of 500 meter bridge in Jhulaghat. For connecting Tanakpur Barrage to Mahendra Nagar (Nepal), construction of 1.3 km 1.5-lane CC road, the forest land has been transferred. Tenders amounting to Rs 7 crores have been invited. Activity is on to make two lane 400 meter bridge at Sirsa in Champawat.
It was informed that according to the Mahakali river treaty arrangement, joint inspection has been done by both countries. Report would be sent to External Affairs Ministry soon. Apart from this, in order to connect the four lane bridge being made by the Nepal in the Mahakali river on the Nepal border with National Highway of Uttarakhand, a 6.3 kilometer road has to be constructed. Proceedings of this are also underway.
During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Om Parkash, Principal Secretary, Irrigation Anand Bardhan, Secretary, Forest Arvind Singh Hayanki, Chief Engineer RC Purohit, Under Secretary Dinesh Punetha and other officers were present.
