The Uttarakhand High Court has sought reply from the Centre and the state government on the construction of a sewage treatment plant (STP) near the Badrinath shrine in violation of environmental norms.
While taking up a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a Nainital resident on Friday, Justices VK Bisht and Alok Singh directed the Central and state governments to file their reply by the next date of hearing on June 19.
Petitioner Chetna Bhargava alleged that the waste from the plant was going into the river. She demanded that a shrine board be formed on the lines of the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and the Tirupati temple board.
