Farmers’ earnings can be increased through pisciculture. There is a huge demand in the market. Uttarakhand has immense potential for fish production. Especially, the cost of trout fish in high mountain areas ranges from Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,000 in the market. Some farmers in Uttarakhand are making profit through trout production. By making effective plans, the number of fish producers has to be increased from 5000 to 10000. Chief Secretary Mr. Utpal Kumar Singh was presiding over the state level steering committee for the work plan for the financial year 2018-19 at secretariat on Friday. An annual work plan of Rs. 39.55 crores was approved. It was informed that under Cold Water Fisheries Development, various works will be done from the Rs 7.71 crore. Rs 18 crore will be spent on the special project of cold water development.
Under this, construction of 114 permanent farming units, construction of trout race vaze, construction of 44 units for women, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, 41 running water fish culture, construction of 19 units for women, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, construction of Trout Brood Bank in Rudraprayag, Big Feed Plant of 6 to 10 tonnes per day in Bageshwar and Tehri and construction of two trout hatchery in Government Sector are included. To develop Cage Culture, 18 Cage will be set up from Rs 58 Lakhs. From Rs 2.49 crore, Mission Fingerling in 16.95 hectare, in 16.95 hectare input, for construction of Fingerling and input in 9.70 hectare for women, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes would be given.
Renovation of ponds will be done from Rs 26.85 lakh rupees. Rs 1.50 crore for the development of water logged areas, strengthening of fingerlings from solar power, Aqua culture activities from Rs 5.54 crore, production of Pangasius fish in private sector, skill development of farmers, retail fish market, mobile fish outlet and fishery development works will be done. Apart from this, Group Accident Insurance for farmers and strengthening the database etc. will be done.
