Despite being one of the tourist destination, Nainital’s law and order situation is deteriorating with the scenario turning alarming due to the inefficiency of the authorities. Incidents of armed burglaries and other crimes are taking place but the police is not being able to solve these. Apart from this the tourism set up is also collapsing with the visitors to Nainital feeling dissatisfied due to the level of facilities provided for tourists. These allegations were made by the opposition leader and Former State finance Minister Indira Hridayesh. She warns that a movement will be undertaken if the police fail to solve the crime cases soon.
Interacting with the media here on Sunday, she questioned the functioning of the State Government. She alleged, “The general public is living in fear these days due to the deteriorating condition of law and order in the district. Recently, armed criminals barged into Bhuwan Bhatt’s home on Rampur Road and brutally murdered his wife Radha Bhatt while also beating him up severely. Instead of trying to search for the criminals, the police are waiting for Bhuwan to regain consciousness. Similarly, the home of dairy businessman on Nawabi Road was looted of lakhs of rupees and here again the police have failed to make headway.” She warned that if the police fail to solve these cases soon, the Congress along with local residents will take to the streets in protest.
“Nainital and Mussoorie are two prominent tourist destinations in the state which see a considerable number of visitors especially on weekends and other holidays. However, tourism is suffering due to the arbitrary orders of the Nainital district administration. Due to the inefficiency of the authorities, tourists are now avoiding visiting Nainital. The authorities will have to take concrete and effective measures to regulate the situation in the interests of tourists and those involved in tourism related businesses.”
Attacking on the State Government for its style of functioning, Hridayesh said that the Bazpur sugar mill which used to generate highest income among sugar mills is now reach on the verge of closure. Despite there being two cabinet ministers hailing from Udham Singh Nagar district, no concrete efforts have been made to bail out the Bazpur sugar mill. Three workers have died due to financial woes but no efforts are being made by the government to effective resolve the problems here. She accused the state government of insensitivity while adding that the state government was responsible for the dire condition of Bazpur sugar mill.
Demanding that the State Government should take effective steps to resolve these various problems, she warned that failing this, the Congress will be forced to take to the streets in protest against the State Government.
