In order to motivate the people, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat initiated the work of digging pits for plantation under Mission Rispna to Rishiparan at Kairavan Village near Rajpur, Tapobhumi and Mathorwala-Daudwala.
Rispana to Rishiparna a social movement
Chief Minister said that the rejuvenation work of Rispana and Koshi will not be confined to these two rivers but has to be taken all across the state. If the youth of the state understand that they have save the rivulets, water channels in their area, then the job of rejuvenation of rivers will become easier.
Saving Rispana and Kosi is not a government programme but this has to be made a programme of the society. He said that he has been enthused to see the way the people from small children to youth and elderly have participated in the campaign. He reiterated his belief that the campaign will become a big social movement. The Rispana and Bindal rivers will be restored to their previous state, when clean water used to flow in them. The effort to save Rispana is for the future generation. The government has Plan A, B and C ready for it and what is required is public participation. He instructed the Chief Secretary to consider making certain meeting points in the city, where the people can gather for plantation. From these points, the transport arrangements can be made to take the people to respective plantations sites.
2.5 lakhs pits to be dugged till June
District Magistrate Dehradun S. A. Murugeshan said the under Rishiparna rejuvenation mission, they have fixed target of digging about 2.5 lakh pits from Ladhaur Shikhar Fall to Motharwala-Daudwala area by end of June. He said that 39 blocks have been established for this work in Kairwan village, Shikhar Fall to Rajpur head (Kath Bangla) and Nari Niketan Motharwala-Daudwala confluence section. The target for digging minimum 250 pits in each block has been fixed for every Saturday. He said that in today’s programme more than 40 government and non-government organisations and more than 8,000 to 10,000 volunteers, school students and common people participated enthusiastically.
Many Institutions/Organisations participated
Several organisations including ITBP, Forest Department, Eco Task Force, USERC, MAD, Civil Defence, Scholars Home Alumni Association, St. George’s School, Government Girls Inter College, Parmarth Niketan, along with government and non-government organizations participated. In the month of July, the work of plantation in the pits would be undertaken. DM said that from the total trees to be planted, 30 per cent would be fruit bearing trees.
