IIP bags innovation awards-2018

Indian Institute of Petroleum bags the first prize for its innovation of making fuel from garbage, Graphic Era Hill University the second prize for its sensor-based smart dustbin and SPECS wins the third prize for its repairing technique for LED bulbs. Winners were given Innovator Awards-2018 by the Governor Dr KK Paul at Rajbhawan. They had displayed their innovation on the occasion of National Science Day at Rajbhawan.

The Governor said that innovations were very significant for the development of society. Giving example of Japan, which is one of the strongest economies of the world through innovation. Congratulating the winners, he said that the concepts of all three were appreciable and expressed hope that other institutions and individuals would be inspired by them. He directed that the smart dustbin should be kept in the secretariat and other places.

On the occasion of National Science Day this year, on the direction of the governor, a science exhibition was organized in which ten institutions had displayed 26 models. The best innovations were selected by a committee of two members–secretary to the Governor and secretary (Science and Technology) Ravinath Raman and DG of UCOST Dr.Rajendra Dobhal.

IIP was given Rs.5000 with a certificate, Graphic Era Hill University was given Rs.4000 and a certificate and SPECS received Rs.3000 and a certificate The amount was given from the Governor’s discretionary fund.

Conducting the programme, Dr.Rajendra Dobhal said that the innovation of IIP would help reduce plastic pollution as it made fuel from plastics The smart dustbin made by Graphic Era Hill university would open by itself when a person approached it. Led bulbs could be repaired at a minimal cost through the SPECS concept. Ravinath Raman said that the innovations had been judged in the context of their being useful for society.

Present at the function were IIP’s Dr.Anjan Ray, Aman Kumar Jain and Dr.Sanat Kumar, Grpahic Era’s Rahul Chauhan, Rakesh Thapliyal and Neeraj Kumar and SPECS’ Dr.B.M.Sharma, Mona Bali and Ramtirth Maurya.
