French Counsellor meet Governor

Director of Institute Francais and Counsellor for cooperation & cultural affairs Dr.Bertrand de HARTINGH, along with his colleagues, met Governor Dr KK Paul on Friday. They deliberated upon the scope for cooperation between France and Uttarakhand in various spheres.

Dr Bertrand spoke about joint efforts of France and Uttarakhand in higher education. the Governor said that university to university partnership would have to be given priority.

Exchange of students between France and Uttarakhand would help in this direction. For this, Indian students would need to learn French. Doon University was running courses in French.

Dr Paul said that there were vast possibilities of organic farming in Uttarakhand. The experience that France had in this sphere could benefit Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand’s climate was conducive for cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and there was vast scope for cottage and small industries, animal husbandry, beekeeping and silk production in Uttarakhand.

Dr.Bertrand said that Uttarakhand had a developed infrastructure in higher education and it was a priority for the French government to make efforts in this sphere with Uttarakhand. The French government was providing scholarships to students from here who went to study in France.
