Serving patient selflessly should be duty of doctor

Governor Dr.K.K.Paul said today that serving patients selflessly was the highest objective and duty of a doctor. the medical profession is a sacred one and should be saved from being commercialized. He was addressing at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Rishikesh while inaugurating the first cultural festival “PYREXIA 2018”.

He said that it was reported by the media that the expense of medical tests and medicines was very high. He called upon the medical students to ensure that they maintained the sanctity of their profession and ensured the interests of the patients.

The Governor said that IQ was important in a student’s life but EQ was more important as it was the emotional intelligence that made us lead happy and successful lives. The leadership qualities and team spirit were results of EQ. He asked the students to read good books and expand the horizons of their knowledge and wisdom. They should also try to meet more people in person.

He congratulated the students and teachers for organizing PYREXIA 2018 and said this event would provide a good platform to students to display their talent. He expressed happiness at the fact that AIIMS, Rishikesh has the largest number of seats for Post Graduate study among the six AIIMS set up under the PM’s Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.

He said AIIMS, Rishikesh was playing an important role in providing health services in Uttarakhand. AIIMS Rishikesh has become one of the few centres in the country to acquire and utilize ‘Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Technology’, which has revolutionized surgical treatment. Radiation treatment facilities for cancer patients with latest state of art technology was also started first in this institute amongst all the new AIIMS, he said.
Present on the occasion were AIIMS (Rishikesh) Director Dr. (Prof.) Ravi Kant, faculty members and students.
