Rekha demands rape victim’s age to be increased upto 14 under POCSO

Uttarakhand Minister of Women Welfare and Child Development Rekha Arya has commended the central governments’ move through an ordinance to provide for harsher punishment under POCSO Act. She said that this step was commendable and hoped that after the implementation of this ordinance, the persons convicted in the cases of raping girls up to age of 12 years can be hanged to death.

She said that since there is a time limit for prosecution and harsher punishment in the ordinance, there will be a decrease in number of crimes against young girls and women. She said that with swift and harsh punishment there will be a fear of law amongst the offenders. She suggested that the law should increase the age of victim from 12 years to 14 years in such cases
