Uttarakhand Sill Development Mission under ‘India Skill-2018’ are holding competition in various skills. As part of the programme, competitions in cooking and restaurant services, auto body repair, car painting and welding for youth from Garhwal region were held at IHM, Garhi cantonment and Mohan Motors Rishikesh on Saturday.
It has to be mentioned that Uttarakhand state will be participating for the first time in the World Skills Competition which is world’s biggest competition as known as Olympiad for skills under the leadership of Skill Development Mission (SDM), Director, Dr Pankaj Kumar Pandey. The World Skills competition is held after every two years. The purpose of the global competition is to develop skills so that more number of youths can horn their skills and take it up as their profession.
A total of 20 in cooking and 12 in restaurant service, male and female participants took part in the contest. The five toppers in each category were selected. In the cooking contest, Girish Chand stood first, Vivek Chamoli second and Preeti Chamoli was third while Hiamnshu Bisht was fourth and Priyank Deep was fifth.
In the restaurant service contest, Samrath Bisht stood first, Himanshu Dalia second and Rahul Singh Bakradi was third while Akakansha Pundir was fourth and Sanjay Pal Singh Negi was fifth.
The cooking competition was judged by chef Shirish Saxena, Chef Rajiv Parkash (formerly of Taj Hotel) and Mahendra Kharia ( of Jass Indian Culinary Forum,).The restaurant section was judge by Rahul Vasudeva, Vinit Giri, hotel Sarovar and R.C.Pandey, Principal, IHM. The contest were judged on presentation, taste and cleanliness.
Similarly, 73 youths participated in auto body repair, car painting, and welding competition. Under auto body repair, Divaansh Singh Bisht, Nitin Kumar, and Aditya Sharma stood first, second and third respectively. The jury members were from Automotive Sector Skills Council, Dhawal Rajput, and Dharmendra Sharma, while Rahul Verma, Ajay Bodh, and Manish Kumar bagged first, second and third prizes respectively under car painting and the jury members were from Automotive Sector Skills Council, Dharmendra Sharma and AKZO Novel, Sanjay Negi. Under welding category, Aasha Mahmod, Anuj Kumar and Gaurav Pal stood first, second and third respectively and Udayraj Singh and Mohit Johar were jury members.
The competition in Kumaon division for auto body repair , car denting and welding will be held at ITI, Haldwani on April 11. The competition in cooking and restaurant service will be held at Amarpalli Instituite, Haldwani on April 12.
The ten selected candidates from Garhwal and Kumoan region would participate in a state level competitions to be held from April 15 to April 18in Dehradun. The selected candidates would then be sent for national level competition and from there, selected candidates would participate in World Skill Competition 2019, which is going to be held in Russian town of Kazhan.
