Education is the key in social change

Governor Dr.K.K.Paul said today that education is the key to social change. It can enable women to become empowered and confident. He expressed these views while addressing, as the chief guest, the annual prize distribution ceremony at MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh.

He said that the college had established itself in the sphere of higher education. He congratulated the management, principal, teachers  and students on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the college. He said he himself had studied in DAV, Chandigarh till Higher Secondary.

He said that the name of Chandigarh was symbolic of the “shakti” of Durga Devi (Maa Chandi) .Students from this city must provide strength to the nation and society. He remembered on the occasion former chief justice of Supreme Court Mehr Chand Mahajan after whom the college is named.

The Governor said that    the DAV system of education was a synthesis of  modern education and traditional Indian culture and values. He said the achievements of the college ( Getting an A Grade from NAAC and star status from Biotechnology, Science and Technology ministry, GOI) were commendable. They were an inspiration for other institutions.

He said that without the progress of women, no nation could move ahead. In Indian culture, a woman had been given the status of “Devi”. However, there is a large part of our society that has a narrow minded outlook towards women.

He said  Prime Minister Narendra Modi had started the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. We must ensure that women are respected and made a art of decision making. Efforts to do this must begin from each home.

The Governor said education was not just confined to studies and degrees but was a complete art of living. He said that there was always lack of some resources. There were never any ideal situations in life and this one must work hard and use limited resources to become successful .Students must read good books to develop their minds and character .

The Governor said that emotional quotient (EQ) was more important than intelligence quotient (IQ) as it was our emotional intelligence that helped us establish relationships with our family, colleagues and friends. A good team leaders one who can take along everyone and move ahead. For the complete development of personality, one must come out of the virtual world and develop face to face contacts with people.

 He said that students must pass out of college and live by the social values and parameters .They must use the knowledge they have gained at the institution and face challenges of life with the help of discipline, self control and truthfulness .
