SBSPGI’s 18th Annual Athletic meet concludes

Sardar Bhagwan Singh Post Graduate Institute of Biomedical Sciences & Research, Balawala organized its 18th Annual Athletic Meet from 14th to 16th March with flamboyant spirit. The event was inaugurated with the torch lighting ceremony by the wife of Founder Director Sardarni Harinder Pal Kaur, Chairman SP Singh, Managing Secretary Dr Gaurav Deep Singh, Director Prof. FC Garg and Asst. Manager (Admin) Sardar Zorawar Singh.

Prof Garg said that sports help in development of mental and physical strength. This was followed by the oath taking ceremony. The competition between the four houses of the Institute (Ajit, Fateh, Jujhar and Zorawar) was declared open by Sardarni Harinder Pal Kaur. The sweat bursting events included field and track events. The track events included 100m, 200m and relay race in 400m for both boys and girls, while 400m and 1500m marathon were for boys. Field events such as javelin throw, shot put and discus throw were the star events. All the houses cheered their representatives creating an ambience of healthy competition. The athletic meet was a treat to the spectators as well as the participants. The meet witnessed fierce competition and enthralling performances by the athletes.

Dr. Harshwanti Bisht (recipient of Arjuna award in Mountaineering), Dy. Director (Higher education) & Joint Director (RUSA), Uttarakhand Shashan, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest on closing ceremony. In her speech she said that sports are indispensable part of education and it helps to build one’s self esteem and self-confidence in order to become most accomplished person. She appreciated the management to encourage the students to involve in sports activities. Chief Guest congratulated winners and felicitated them with medals and certificates.

The winners in various categories are as follows: Mohit Bisht and Swarnima in 100m, Mohit Bisht and Aarti in 200m, Vikas and Swarnima in 400m and Yogesh Rana in 1500 m races, Gurdeep Singh and Komal in shot put, Tejas and Bhawna in Javelin throw, Mohit Bisht and Aakasha in Discus throw, Mohit Bisht, Varnit Tyagi, Vikas and Ganesh in 400m relay race of boys and Tanuja, Shivani, Rekha and Aarti in 400m relay race of girls. The title for the best male athlete was bagged by Mohit Bisht while Swarnima bagged the title of the best female athlete. Overall winner of the athletic meet was Jujhar House. This colourful event received overwhelming participation and enthusiasm by students. Later the Institute Marcha Past showed a magnificent display of discipline, coordination and the impeccable synchronization of all the different squads of the various Houses.
