DAINIK NATION BUREAU

Uttarakhand Handloom and Handicraft Development Council Dehradun have organized “national handloom expo” at parade ground which will be till 13th January.

The expo includes many stalls with different kinds of handloom made clothes from places all over the country. There are stalls from Jaipur, Banaras, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and many other cities with more than 150 stalls with 110 handloom stalls and 45 stalls from Uttarakhand.

There are many stalls from the city of Banaras. One of the specialties of Banaras are the banarsi sarees which were available in the best of the quality in good prices. The range of prices differ for the three stalls, with sarees starting from rs.1000 to rs.30,000 and suits starting from rs.150 to rs.5000. The material includes pure silk, mix of silk and cotton, chanderi, pure cotton and more. Both sarees and suit materials are available in the desired quality. The manufacturing is from Banaras itself, some made specially at the sellers’ homes. With variety in designs and materials, the fabric is both handloom, handmade as well as machine work.

Some of these sellers have been coming to Uttarakhand for the past 12 years, and go around the country to sell their fabrics. They said they preferably like to sell here in Uttarakhand because the people here have a very good standard in their choices and buy, people here are very cooperative, thus they always have a good sell here. They always feel welcomed and loved here. They expressed their special thanks to the authorities who are always cooperative and never made them feel like outsiders. They expressed the fact that these National handloom expos are not held all the time and specifically set up in very few cities. Thus this is like a golden opportunity for them to set their very best quality clothes and materials with authentic work made on their homeland at the most reasonable prices that they can ever offer.
