In a first of its kind initiative, the traffic directorate will seize vehicles that do not give way to an ambulance besides recommending cancellation of licence of the driver.
Under the proposed ‘Project Nirog’, all drivers must give free passage to an ambulance by moving to the side of the road.
This is the latest in a series of novel initiatives by the traffic directorate in the recent past. Under ‘Project Sukhad’, women are being offered free pick and drop facility on last Sunday of every month. Last week, ‘Project Awaaz’ was launched to make city buses safer for women passengers. Under the project, whistles have been placed on every seat for women to blow and alert in case they face any harassment.
About 157 ambulances belonging to both government and private hospitals run on city roads. Emergency services 108 also has a fleet of 20 ambulances.
