Survey team, which was sent to ascertain the report about landslide at Gomukh, could not reach to the spot due to inclement weather on Thursday. they have been camping at Kankhu, on way to Gomukh.
Taking cognizance on the satellite image of the Gomukh and input of intelligence bureau (IB), administration had sent a survey team to ascertain the fact. Due to inclement weather the 12 member team could not move ahead from Kankhu, on way to Gomukh in uttarkashi district. Now they have been waiting there and once weather improves then they would continue their journey.
Ironically IB input and satellite image have created panic among government because they were informed that there is landslide reported at Gomukh nearby china border. With this landslide water colour of bhagirathi reiver has also changed. Even they have expressed apprehension that it has little bit affected the course of Bhagirathi river too because an artificial lake formed due to arrival of debris there.
Secretary Disaster Management Amit Negi said that due to landslide at Gomukh there is report of little bit change in course of river due to debris, which came down after land slide but no information about lake formation there. We have been closely monitoring flow of river. For recce helicopter could not take off and as weather improves they would go for recce.
Uttarkashi DM Dr Ashish Chouhan said that due to inclement survey team comprised of 12 member could not move ahead from Kankhu. Once weather clears then Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi member will go for survey. As per the available information, which has been disseminated by mountaineer, they did not find change in water colour of Bhagirathi river.
