McAfee Collaborates with Samsung to Deliver Enhanced Security to Galaxy Note8 Users

McAfee today announced further collaboration with Samsung to support the back-end for Samsung’s newly pre-installed Wi-Fi protection, Secure Wi-Fi on the Galaxy Note8, in the U.S. and Europe. With the pre-installed application, Galaxy Note8 users will benefit from increased privacy while on the go, enabling them to experience the digital world with greater confidence.
Per a recent McAfee survey, 58% of respondents know how to check if a Wi-Fi network is safe to use, but less than half take the time to ensure their connection is secure. Unlike home Wi-Fi networks, many hotspots offered at public locations are not protected, and connecting to them can open consumers up to having their sensitive data accessed by hackers. With Secure Wi-Fi, Galaxy Note8 users’ information and online activities are automatically encrypted.

“Increasingly consumers are using their mobile phones to connect to both public and private Wi-Fi,” said John Giamatteo, executive vice president, consumer business group, McAfee. “By encrypting Samsung users’ sensitive data with Secure Wi-Fi, we’re helping ensure they can connect with the confidence they need to feel secure.”

“As consumers use their mobile devices more and more to conduct sensitive transactions, such as checking their online bank or credit card accounts, we understand the importance of building security into our devices from the start,” said Henry Lee, senior vice president of Mobile Security Technologies of Samsung Electronics. “With the integration of Secure Wi-Fi, Note8 users will be able to feel comfortable knowing that their devices are protected with the latest security solutions.”

Availability of Secure Wi-Fi on Galaxy Note8

Secure Wi-Fi is currently provided on Galaxy Note8 in the U.S. for T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular customers. Customers in Europe* will be able to experience the solution on Galaxy Note8 via a software update later this year. This includes 250 MB of monthly data volume at no cost, with the option for users to purchase unlimited daily or monthly bandwidth.

* Secure Wi-Fi will be available in select Europe markets including United Kingdom, Germany, France later this year and additional countries will be added gradually. The availability may vary by each market’s conditions.
