Governor Dr KK Paul today flagged off the Rustamji BSF Mountain Biking Himalayan Challenge Cup 2017 from Pavilion Ground here.
In his address, the Governor said that discipline and professionalism haS made BSF one of the excellent Para Military forces in the world. After its establishment, it has fulfilled its responsibilities with perfection and thus made the country proud.
Besides defending the borders of the country, the BSF had made several initiatives in the social sector. After the Swachh Bharat –Swachh Himalaya mission and Clean Ganga-Save Ganga campaign, the BSF has now started the mountain biking challenge cup will give a positive message to save the environment to the people. Such adventure sports events, inspire youth and gives their energy the right direction.
The Governor said that KF Rustamji was among the best police officers in the country. His role in the establishment of BSF was prominent. He congratulated the BSF for starting the biking challenge in memory of Rustamji, he gave his wishes to all the participants.
BSF IG Vikas Chandra said that the theme of the biking challenge was linked to save the environment and leading a healthy life. Teams of Army, SSB, state police, civil mountain bikers and women bikers were part of the event.
Chandra said that by including school children, social organizations, scout and guides, NCC cadets and the general public, the biking challenge would spread awareness for saving the environment .
Raj Kumar Negi, Commandant of the BSF Institute of Adventure and Advanced Training, Doiwala, said that the men’s solo team in the biking challenge would cover a distance of 264 km(in their race) while the women bikers team would have a 35 km race. The men’s team would take three days and reach Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun, on December 13.
On the occasion of the flagging off were present former BSF DG Subhash Joshi and former IG S.S.Kothiyal.
