The Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, yesterday celebrated the 68th Van Mahotsav by planting a large number of trees along Lawrie Road within the institute’s sprawling campus in Dehradun.

Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) Director-General Dr SC Gairola, who was the chief guest, emphasized that youngsters, including students, should be exhorted to plant saplings.

He reiterated that such efforts would not only conserve trees of the country, but would also improve micro climate and add to aesthetics in urban and suburban areas where the green cover was drastically dwindling.

FRI Director Dr Savita also planted and encouraged others to plant more trees in the vicinity of their households. Vedika Gairola, wife of DG, ICFRE, senior scientist Dr KP Singh and a large number of FRI officials and their family members were present on the occasion.

A total of over 500 tree saplings, including amaltas, gulmohor, chandini and champa ornamental, were planted.
