A woman cop from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr has won accolades on social media after she stood up to bullying by a group of BJP workers in Sayana. BJP workers resorted to bullying and sloganeering after senior woman officer Shrestha Thakur fined and arrested one them for not carrying appropriate driving documents.
Shrestha Thakur stood up to Pramod Lodhi, who is the husband of the district panchayat member of BJP.
A video of the incident that took place on Friday afternoon later went viral. In the video Thakur is seen confronting the irate BJP workers who also raised slogans against police.
While the men were seen surrounding the woman officer and arguing with her. Thakur is seen telling them that additional sections of IPC will be added against them for the ruckus.
In a jibe at the agitating workers, Thakur asked them to get a letter signed from the chief minister stating that the police should not check vehicles. Circle Officer Shreshtha Thakur took to task the protesting workers when they began raising slogans against the police. The video shows Thakur countering every argument while surrounded by a group of protesting workers.
When the workers argued why only BJP workers were being targeted by police, Thakur, said, “Do one thing. Go to the CM and get a written order from him that police have no right to check the documents of vehicles and that you will not get your vehicles checked by the cops. We will not check the vehicles then. We will stop standing on the road.”
The matter pertains to a Friday afternoon incident when a district level BJP worker Pramod Lodhi confronted cops when they checked his motorcycle and demanded travel documents.
He was later issued a challan after which he allegedly misbehaved with cops leading to his arrest. Recalling the incident, Thakur is heard saying in the video, “I will add another IPC section 354 (assault on criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) also. Wo aadmi police ke saath badtameezi kar raha hai, humaare saath bhee badtameezi kar raha hai. Abhi 354 aur thokungi.”
She said, “You are bringing bad name to even BJP. Thode din mein log kahna shuru kar denge ki ye BJP ke goonde hain (In a few days, people will start saying these are the BJP goondas).”
The video was shot in the court premises where Lodhi was produced and a large number of BJP workers began creating ruckus in the court premises. The workers alleged that Lodhi was arrested because he refused to pay a bribe of Rs 2,000 to the cops, but Thakur refuted the claim.
